how to decorate your x mas tree in one minute and 29 seconds.

i finally got to take a class specifically about my camera. it was informative. the camera can do insane things ... i just wish the class was longer. i want there to be a part 2. the 2 hour class flew by in no time. i learned a lot and i know there is a lot more to learn.

the fun thing i took from the class is the ability to do time lapse photography with the camera ... so i tried it while we decorated our tree ... this is my third time lapse attempt, the first 2 have not been uploaded yet ...

anyway - the video is not perfect, but its kinda fun and its only a minute and a half (1:29). check it out.

this is the first time lapse thing i tried. looking aout my kitchen window during sunrise ... i'm also learning how to use "movie maker" so i added music but the timing isn't great ... the music is though (The Widows)

i went to the bolsa chica nature reserve on the way to work this morning. i've never been there before. weave and i tried to go once with otis but the "no dogs" sign turned us around.

i had fun shooting birds ... shooting pictures of birds i guess i should clarify ... here are a couple.

bacon infused bourbon - the process ...

the ingredients and recipe book
(the maple syrup is used in the drink, not the infusing process)

step one: make bacon

step two: add 1.5oz of moulton bacon fat to 750 ml of bourbon

stir

infuse for 4 hours

freeze for 2 hours

after getting rid of the fat and straining through cheese cloth
pour back in the bottle

label it so no mistakes are made.

so, we sampled this on fight night (11/12 - the night manny pacquio lost the fight but won the decision). reactions were mixed but not great. i thought it was OK but too smokey/bacony. dennis dumped it out and thought it was gross, the weave thought it was too over-powering and said "maybe we can cook with it." and wendy said she liked it. mike thought it needed more bacon. i left the top off the bottle for 24 hours to see if it mellows out a little bit ... more later.

i love this building

nyc

i'm having a little trouble deciding how to upload the pix from my recent trip to new york. should i do it by location (central park, columbus circle, chinatown, brooklyn bridge, pdt, tradeshow) or by style (street, skateboarding, landscape, artsy fartsy, roller disco) or should i just purge all the pix at once ... NO i can't purge them. i think i'll do it by style ...

the weave and i were heading to central park and she wanted to stop in the mall at columbus circle ... i stayed outside and spotted some kids skating in the center of the traffic circle ... i haven't shot skateboarding pictures since before these guys were born, but i really like some of them ... i gave the one of the skaters my card, i hope, if they look, they like what they see ... i do.

workshop

I participated in a street photography workshop last weekend (Oct 15 + 16) that was awesome. Eric Kim's beginning street photography workshop. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in street photography. The workshop is very comprehensive. There were discussions, power point presentations, documentaries, critics and, of course, shooting in the street. My main reason for signing up for the workshop was to help me with my discomfort (fear) of shooting strangers in the streets. Eric addresses these fears and helps to make you more comfortable with the process. I am still uncomfortable shooting, but I have a lot more confidence now, than I did before I took the workshop.
Other great things about the workshop are the people involved. Eric is very knowledgeable and sharing, friendly and talented. Rinzi, a former student of Eric’s, now helping with the workshops was awesome. He is super friendly and ready to help, listen and teach. And let’s not forget the fellow workshop participants. All super talented photographers. All showed great work at the workshop. All friendly and eager to learn, eager to share knowledge, eager to support the photography community. Check out some of the images from the workshop here.
I’m looking forward to taking another workshop with Eric and I hope some of my new friends will do so too … not because they need it, but because I’d like to hang out with them again!

I'm pretty happy with 8 - 10 shots from the weekend but i'm trying to take Eric's advice and only show my best work. My best 3. editting, editting, editting ... Below are 3 and link to the rest. I can't help it. I need to purge. If any of my fellow workshop attendees happen to see this blog, here are 3 that I didn't show in class ... 2 of them were shot on Sunday ...
