sunset

took these pictures while stopped on pch in huntington beach.

i guess i could fix this a little bit and make the horizon straight, but it doesn't bug me. any thoughts? oh hell, now i want to do it to see if it helps.

hmmm - maybe i do care and i do like it better straight.

photo a day. day 2 again

ok. i re-read the guidelines for the photo a day challenge and realized that i inadvertently cheated. the 'punk vase' image i posted was taken on sunday 1/29/2012. the challenge specifically states 'take a photo everyday.' so i totally cheated. to make up for it, i took this of otis today, in my car, upon arriving at work. yes, the words are subtle, but they are words nonetheless.

Feb Photo a Day

This seems like a fun thing to try, so I'm going to try it. Somebody calling themselves Fat Mum Slim is hosting a photo-a-day challenge. You post a day a photo based on the daily subject or theme. All the themes are below. I actually did start this yesterday but just figured out how to share on my blog today, so I'll need to catch up. Here are the guidelines.

the new location of live wire

venice

we went to venice yesterday and decided to walk otis on the boardwalk ... what a nightmare. otis was pulling, stopping, sniffing, barking, chasing ... all on a short leash. needless to say we cut our visit to beautiful venice a little short. i was hoping to shoot some street shots, but instead only got a few shots off at the skatepark

are your stuck in the middle

in the mornings when i get up early and go surf i pass an area on pch in seal beach that i always stare at. i really want to photograph it but i think its a military base of some sort. there's no place to park and there are signs all over the fences keeping people out. i don't want to go in, i want to stand in the street and shoot (photograph) ... it just looks so cool, so ominous ... the fog tends to lay low among the weird bridge, oil derricks and palm trees. i've seen this image in my head for a couple years now, its almost been so long that if i ever stop and try to shot it, i'm nervous that i will not find the shot i've seen in my head for so long. i want to crop it low and long. not sure you'd calling a panorama, but similar in feeling.

below is a similar looking area in long beach, also on pch. i stopped here on my way to work this morning to see if i could catch an image similar to what i want from the seal beach location. i'm really happy with this shot and i will return to this location but this is WAY different than what i've described above and i was looking for.

the shat upon

those of you who know me, know that i can be very annoying and immature ... especially when it comes to phrases that i think are funny or odd or interesting. i will declare that new phrase as my "new band name" or "at least a song title for the band." i don't have a band. i can play "louie louie" on guitar and i don't know the whole thing ... anyway, the title of this blog is my new emo band's name. the shat upon. seems appropriate, those emo kids are so depressed ... that phrase actually came from wanting to shoot seagulls at a view point on the way to san diego ... weave and i were worried that we might become "the shat upon." ok seriously, that's my new band name.

i had fun shooting here and, no, we did not get shat upon.

sea gull or eagle?

do not feed

the one called "wing" might be my favorite. it is not cropped (except for size) and honestly, i don't remember taking the picture, but i love it ... actually, its hard for me to pick a favorite. i like all 4 above, which is rare for me ...
