are your stuck in the middle

in the mornings when i get up early and go surf i pass an area on pch in seal beach that i always stare at. i really want to photograph it but i think its a military base of some sort. there's no place to park and there are signs all over the fences keeping people out. i don't want to go in, i want to stand in the street and shoot (photograph) ... it just looks so cool, so ominous ... the fog tends to lay low among the weird bridge, oil derricks and palm trees. i've seen this image in my head for a couple years now, its almost been so long that if i ever stop and try to shot it, i'm nervous that i will not find the shot i've seen in my head for so long. i want to crop it low and long. not sure you'd calling a panorama, but similar in feeling.

below is a similar looking area in long beach, also on pch. i stopped here on my way to work this morning to see if i could catch an image similar to what i want from the seal beach location. i'm really happy with this shot and i will return to this location but this is WAY different than what i've described above and i was looking for.

where

i like this picture because it doesn't look like it was taken in my front yard. it looks to me like it was taken at the beach or overlooking a cliff or something other than simply looking at the sunset down my street.

Moving Vehicle

I've never shot out of a moving car - So I thought I'd try it. I always see things from the car that I'd like to shoot, so I tried it. And I'll try it again.
I was trying to get a picture of a guy in echo Park pushing a shopping cart. As I was going to point the camera toward him I hit the window with my lens and snapped the picture. Not sure what this is, but I like it.

More of my fav ... Palm Trees and Power Lines ...

Frog House

I love the Frog House. Best surf shop with helpful people that seem like they would be dicks ... But they're not.

Nardcore

Less is more? Didn't I type that somewhere pertaining to this blog? I did, I know I did, but I shot 157 pictures over the weekend and am having trouble narrowing them down ... I'm not saying they are all "show-worthy" but I like them and I like where they were taken, so ...  I guess I'm posting them. Hope you like or at least look at them.

Wagon Wheel Bowling

The Back of the Wagon Wheel Inn
The bowling sign and the broken down motel have so much potential. I feel like I could have spent an entire day there. I'll be back ...

Culver City

Culver City is a cool area - I could shoot there for days ... Thanks Weave!

Dry Cleaners Wall

Drainage Ditch near ThinkSpace

These 2 images are of the coolest planter I've ever seen. It is at a place called Superfad ...  It looks like a tv studio of some kind, yeah, yeah, I could look it up, but this blog is supposed to be getting LESS wordy.  OK I looked it up here. Anyway - these pictures are of cactus planters. 36 pots, 36 cacti, elevated about 36 feet off the ground. I was really tempted to call Superfad and ask whoever answered the phone "What's that planter thing you guys have in your parking lot? It's so cool!" The one on the right has Sarah in the picture so you can get an idea of the size of it.

Sunday evening

Anyone see the sunset on Sunday? Wow. None of these are editted, no color boosting, no cropping, except the last one is color boosted a little.

Post Funeral

Friday was my grandmother's funeral. After the funeral there was a gathering at my grandparent's house in Inglewood ... That slide and basketball hoop have been in their backyard since my dad was a kid ...

Obvious

Sunsets are an obvious thing to photograph yet I'm drawn to them. Sometimes the colors are just amazing and if you add some clouds in there ... I'm sold.

A couple days ago Sarah said "The sky looks really cool right now, you should grab your camera" and I did. I remeber not being too excited about what I shot, right after shooting it but looking at them later, I actually kinda like a couple.

I wish the moon was an inch to the left.

I think this was January 16, 2011.

favorite

Well, including myself, there are 3 people following this blog so far. I am actually considering telling a few other people about it. But not yet.

You 2 other people have seen these pictures before but they might be my favorite pictures I've ever taken with my iPhone. That being said they belong on my photo blog, right? So here they are, taken in California Heights Historic District in Long Beach, CA, January 6, 2011.

Carlsbad

Had a long productive day on Saturday. saw friends, shed tears, exercised the dog and took very few pictures but i like a couple I took in an Alley behind Timmy's work (after I edited them and boosted their color a little.
