are your stuck in the middle
in the mornings when i get up early and go surf i pass an area on pch in seal beach that i always stare at. i really want to photograph it but i think its a military base of some sort. there's no place to park and there are signs all over the fences keeping people out. i don't want to go in, i want to stand in the street and shoot (photograph) ... it just looks so cool, so ominous ... the fog tends to lay low among the weird bridge, oil derricks and palm trees. i've seen this image in my head for a couple years now, its almost been so long that if i ever stop and try to shot it, i'm nervous that i will not find the shot i've seen in my head for so long. i want to crop it low and long. not sure you'd calling a panorama, but similar in feeling.
below is a similar looking area in long beach, also on pch. i stopped here on my way to work this morning to see if i could catch an image similar to what i want from the seal beach location. i'm really happy with this shot and i will return to this location but this is WAY different than what i've described above and i was looking for.

how to decorate your x mas tree in one minute and 29 seconds.
i finally got to take a class specifically about my camera. it was informative. the camera can do insane things ... i just wish the class was longer. i want there to be a part 2. the 2 hour class flew by in no time. i learned a lot and i know there is a lot more to learn.
the fun thing i took from the class is the ability to do time lapse photography with the camera ... so i tried it while we decorated our tree ... this is my third time lapse attempt, the first 2 have not been uploaded yet ...
anyway - the video is not perfect, but its kinda fun and its only a minute and a half (1:29). check it out.

this is the first time lapse thing i tried. looking aout my kitchen window during sunrise ... i'm also learning how to use "movie maker" so i added music but the timing isn't great ... the music is though (The Widows)

i am thinking about entering a photo contest. i am not 100% sure why. i don't want to "win" anything nor do i really want to compete, but i guess i'm curious about how my photos look with the others that enter ... you know? to see if mine stand up to the others. the contest that interests me is one on perspective ... the sample image for the contest was a giant building with a jogger running by so you could see how giant the building is. i shot 2 of the 3 pictures above with that in mind, as that agave is HUGE! but i don't think they are too successful ... just be warned, there will be more pictures of that blooming agave ...

Flash.
I went to a workshop at the local camera shop (Tuttle Camera) on Speed Lights. While I was hoping for more instruction (ANY instruction) what I got was a make-shift studio set up with 3 stations. The stations were set up with Tuttle's flashes and we were provided "commander" modules to use for the shoot. Anyway - I learned little but enjoy the images I got even though they are obvious and unspectacular. I think the most surprising thing about the drip shots is that the shutter speed was relatively slow (only 1/60) ... I went into that shot thinking it wold need to be much higher.
The drip shots are not and were not inteneded to be a sequence ... They are just the images I liked the best of the 20 I shot. I think the last one is my favorite (the last drip).
This flower was another demo set up at the class - A fake flower on a piece of glass with a side flash. I like the reflection. It looks like an imge you would see at Aaron Brothers in a frame on the shelf waiting to be purchased ... You know what I mean? An ad.

I am pretty sure I've posted this picture here before, but I just downloaded the 30 day trial of Photoshop Lightroom and while I have NO IDEA what I'm doing ... I editted this picture and added a border ... Sorry you have to struggle through my learning curve with me.
